Sea to Sky Pollution Solutions Corporation Unveils New Water in Fuel Emulsion September, 2006 West Vancouver - Sea to Sky Pollution Solutions Corporation (“Sea to Sky”)(www.seatoskypollutionsolutions.com), the preeminent world leader in the development of pollution mitigation and monitoring systems for the marine industry, has just unveiled its new water in fuel emulsion technology after winning an international competition through the Port of Los Angeles to develop a new prototype pollution mitigation technology to reduce marine air pollution. Sea to Sky’s Proprietary technology has been retrofitted to Seaspan Ship Management’s vessel M/V Jakarta Express, a young ocean-going carrier built in 2006 that calls the port monthly. Earlier in the year, Sea to Sky formed an alliance with the West Coast Collaborative and the Marine Working Group to facilitate the development of its water in fuel emulsion system. The company also developed a strategic alliance with Danica Diesel Ltd, a well respected marine diesel engineering company, to provide the specialized expertise required to retrofit and install the new system on M/V Jakarta’s engine. Leading engine manufacturer MAN B&W Diesel provided a guarantee to Sea to Sky that the vessel’s engine warranty would be honoured, to permit Sea to Sky’s to installation and test their new system on the vessel at the Port of Los Angeles. Man B&W Diesel also worked closely with Sea to Sky to ensure the safe retrofitting of the technology on M/V Jakarta Express, and was instrumental in the development and patenting of the AutoPurge safety system as an additional system component. “We are pleased to announce the unveiling of our proprietary water in fuel emulsion emission mitigation technology on Seaspan’s M/V Jakarta Express,” says Sea to Sky’s President Eric Hutchingame. “This R&D project’s success has resulting in funding being secured for another project at the Port of Los Angeles to demonstrate our proprietary water in fuel emulsion system in partnership with shipping giant APL Maritime.” Water in fuel emulsion, a proven technology that has been around since the early 1900s, is the process of emulsifying fuel and water before injection into the engine's combustion cylinder. Despite its long history, the marine industry has been reluctant to use the technology, largely because it is only relatively recently that emissions have become a concern, and previous emulsified fuels were pre-mixed and therefore costly and impractical for a host of different reasons. Sea to Sky has designed its water in fuel emulsion system to overcome these barriers by developing an “on demand” system so that the emulsified fuel can be turned off when needed during situations when more power is required, such as docking and maneuvering. The technology has additional economic and environmental benefits: it uses oily waste water generated on board the vessel for use in the emulsification process, effectively eliminating discharge of effluents into the sea and their costly disposal on shore. About Sea to Sky Pollution Solutions Corporation Sea to Sky Pollution Solutions Corporation (www.seatoskypollutionsolutions.com) is a global consortium based in West Vancouver, Canada that includes a network of leading environmental technology developers, marine and aerospace manufacturers and environmental stewards to serve the maritime community and Sea to Sky’s stakeholders. Sea to Sky’s mission is to eliminate discharges of effluents into the Sea from marine vessels while simultaneously reducing the NOx and particulate matter (PM) emissions they put into the Sky, as reflected in their slogan “Breathe Easy - the Coast is Clear”.
