Sea to Sky Pollution Solutions Corporation Forms Strategic Alliance with Danica Diesel
West Vancouver - Sea to Sky Pollution Solutions Corporation (“Sea to Sky”) (www.seatoskypollutionsolutions.com), the preeminent world leader in the development of pollution mitigation and monitoring systems for the marine industry, has announced its decision to form a strategic alliance with Danica Diesel Ltd., a company renowned for its specialized marine diesel engine expertise. Both companies view their new strategic alliance as a significant business opportunity that will enable them to collaborate and share their respective skills and expertise with the aim of developing Sea to Sky’s new water in fuel emulsion technology to reduce emissions from ocean-going vessels. States Sea to Sky’s President Eric Hutchingame, “Sea to Sky selected Danica Diesel because few other companies offer the requisite specialized diesel engine expertise that will be required to retrofit and install the new technology on a vessel’s engine and provide the necessary monitoring to ensure the technology is not damaging the engine. Danica Diesel and its founder Holger Jacobsen also have a strong relationship with MAN B&W, the world’s leading engine manufacturer, whose support for any new technology is critical for acceptance by the marine industry.” Danica’s specialized marine diesel engine expertise will be critical for Sea to Sky’s upcoming research and development project with Seaspan Ship Management at the Port of Los Angeles. Sea to Sky recently won an international competition through the Air Quality Mitigation Incentive Program for R&D funding in the amount of US 350,000.00 to develop a prototype water in fuel emulstion system which it will be installing on one of Seaspan’s vessels. Increasing emissions at the port have become an increasing concern due to the health-threatening levels of air pollution at the port and its surrounding communities. Water in fuel emulsion, a proven technology that has been around since the early 1900s, is the process of emulsifying fuel and water before injection into the engine's combustion cylinder. Previous studies have consistently shown that water in fuel emulsion can significantly reduce emissions: approximately 1:1 for nitrous oxide (NOx) and 1:2 to 1:3 for particulate matter (PM) based on water percentage (i.e. 30% water reduces NOx by 30% and PM by 60 - 90%). Sea to Sky plans develop an “on demand” system that utilizes oily waste water on board and eliminates the need for pre emulsified fuel. If the collaborative development of Sea to Sky’s water in fuel emulsion system proves successful, Sea to Sky intends to continue its strategic alliance with Danica Diesel to bring its water in fuel emulsion pollution mitigation technology to market and will utilize Danica Diesel for all future retrofits and installations of the system. About Sea to Sky Pollution Solutions Corporation Sea to Sky Pollution Solutions Corporation (www.seatoskypollutionsolutions.com) is a global consortium based in West Vancouver, Canada that includes a network of leading environmental technology developers, marine and aerospace manufacturers and environmental stewards to serve the maritime community and Sea to Sky’s stakeholders. Sea to Sky Pollution Solutions designs innovative, integrated system-based solutions that eliminate the environmental impact of marine vessels, including the effects of toxic diesel emissions. Sea to Sky’s mission is to eliminate discharges of effluents into the Sea from marine vessels while simultaneously reducing the NOx and particulate matter (PM) emissions they put into the Sky, as reflected in their slogan “Breathe Easy - the Coast is Clear”. A world leader in marine diesel engineering, Danica Diesel Ltd.(www.danicadiesel.com) provides services and products that facilitate marine diesel engine performance excellence to reduce operating and maintenance costs and benefit the environment.
