July 17, 2006 West Vancouver - Sea to Sky Pollution Solutions Corporation (“Sea to Sky”) (www.seatoskypollutionsolutions.com), the preeminent world leader in the development of pollution mitigation and monitoring systems for the marine industry, has announced that MAN B&W, the world’s leading marine diesel engine manufacturer, will guarantee the vessel engine warranty in order to permit Sea to Sky to test its new water in fuel emulsion technology. The technology will be tested on Seaspan Ship Management vessel M/V Jakarta Express as part of an R&D project at the Port of Los Angeles. Earlier in 2006, Sea to Sky won an international competition for funding through the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) to develop a prototype water in fuel emulsion system to reduce marine emissions. Remarks Sea to Sky’s President Eric Hutchingame, “We specifically selected Seaspan Ship Management as a project partner because the company has a progressive focus in many areas, one being reducing the impact of shipping on the environment. The Seaspan team is an extremely accomplished and knowledgeable group of individuals and we are grateful to be working with them on such an innovative and exciting initiative.” States Hutchingame, “Sea to Sky views MAN B&W’s guarantee that the engine warranty will be honoured while using our proprietary water in fuel emulsion technology as a significant milestone in the development of the technology. Four out of every five marine diesel engines in operation worldwide is manufactured by MAN B&W, and therefore this industry leader’s guarantee is critical to vessel operators’ acceptance of any new emission reduction technology retrofitted or installed on a vessel’s engine.” Continues Hutchingame, “Engines on these large ocean-going vessels cost millions of dollars, and loss of hire due to vessel downtime can also quickly run into the millions. MAN’s guarantee to honour the engine warranty is paramount. We are delighted that we can now proceed with testing the technology.” Sea to Sky worked closely with MAN B&W and well-known marine diesel engine specialist Holger Jacobsen of Danica Diesel Ltd. to ensure that WiFE on Demand’s retrofitting and the requisite modifications of the fuel system from a low pressure to a high pressure system were designed and carried out in a way that will not compromise the safety of M/V Jakarta Express’ engine. Based on previous studies it is anticipated that Sea to Sky’s water in fuel emulsion technology will substantially reduce emissions. Reductions anticipated are in the order of 1:1 for nitrous oxide (NOx) and 1:2 to 1:3 for particulate matter (PM) based on water percentage (i.e. 30% water reduces NOx by 30% and PM by 60-90%).
