February 2, 2006 West Vancouver - Sea to Sky Pollution Solutions Corporation (“Sea to Sky”) (www.seatoskypollutionsolutions.com), the preeminent world leader in the development of pollution mitigation and monitoring systems for the marine industry, announced that the Port of Los Angeles’ (POLA) Harbour Board of Commissioners has formally ratified a grant of US$350,000.00 for the research and development of a new water in fuel emulsion technology to reduce emissions on an ocean-going vessels at the Port of Los Angeles. Sea to Sky won an international competition for the funding through the Air Quality Mitigation Incentive Program. States Sea to Sky’s President Eric Hutchingame, “The ratification of the POLA funding is not a big surprise for us, as the Port’s selection committee had previously indicated when our project was chosen that the chances of formalizing funding for our new water in fuel emulsion technology were very good.” Sea to Sky Pollution Solutions designs innovative, integrated system-based solutions that eliminate the environmental impact of marine vessels, including the effects of toxic diesel emissions. Reducing marine emissions at the Port of L.A. and surrounding communities has become a primary focus due to the increasing vessel traffic and high levels of associated air pollution and its serious negative effects on human health and the environment. “We are delighted to be partnering with a progressive shipping company like Seaspan Ship Management,” declares Hutchingame. “Seaspan is completely on board with this exciting project, and we plan to design and retrofit our new water in fuel emulsion technology on Seaspan vessel M/V Jakarta Express at the Port of L.A.” A number of high-profile industry stakeholders are directly involved in the R&D project including: previously mentioned vessel operator Seaspan Ship Management, the Port of Los Angeles, the California Air Resources Board (CARB), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, MAN B&W Diesel, University of California Riverside (Center for Environmental Research & Technology (C-CERT)) and Danica Diesel. Water in fuel emulsion, a proven technology, is the process of emulsifying fuel and water before injection into the engine's combustion cylinder. It is anticipated that Sea to Sky’s water in fuel emulsion technology will substantially reduce emissions: Reductions anticipated are in the order of 1:1 for nitrous oxide (NOx) and 1:2 to 1:3 for particulate matter (PM) based on water percentage (i.e. 30% water reduces NOx by 30% and PM by 60-90%).The in-cylinder evaporation of the water during the process also improves the atomization of the fuel causing it to burn more completely. About Sea to Sky Pollution Solutions Corporation Sea to Sky Pollution Solutions Corporation (www.seatoskypollutionsolutions.com) is a global consortium based in West Vancouver, Canada that includes a network of leading environmental technology developers, marine and aerospace manufacturers and environmental stewards to serve the maritime community and Sea to Sky’s stakeholders. Sea to Sky’s mission is to eliminate discharges of effluents into the Sea from marine vessels while simultaneously reducing the NOx and particulate matter (PM) emissions they put into the Sky, as reflected in their slogan “Breathe Easy - the Coast is Clear”.
